Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of systemic metabolic diseases characterized by chronic hyperglycemia, which is caused by absolute or relative deficiency of insulin. Complications of pregnancy include diabetes before pregnancy and abnormal blood glucose levels that occur or are first discovered after pregnancy.

The latter, called gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) , accounts for 80 percent of pregnant women with diabetes. The clinical course of pregnant women with diabetes is complicated, which does great harm to both mother and child.

 

The interaction between diabetes and pregnancy

1 to the fetus, the newborn influence: easy to cause the natural abortion, the fetal malformation, the huge infant, the newborn hypoglycemia, the respiratory distress syndrome and so on.

2 to the maternal influence: easy to cause the premature delivery, dystocia, eclampsia, ketoacidosis and so on.

Gestational diabetes

1. Determination of blood sugar: two or more times of fasting blood glucose ≥7.0 mmol/l or postprandial blood glucose ≥11.1 mmol/L can be diagnosed as PREGDM and pregnancy (PGDM) . 2. During the glucose tolerance test (Ogtt) , pregnant women who have not been diagnosed with diabetes at 24-28 weeks of gestation are given 300 ml of liquid containing 75 g of glucose within 5 minutes, the venous blood was taken before taking sugar and 1,2 hours after taking sugar.

The standard values of abnormal blood glucose were: Fasting 5.1 mmol/L, 1H 10.0 mmol/L, 2h 8.5 mmol/l. any blood glucose value that reached or exceeded the above standard could be diagnosed as gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) .

The standard of blood glucose control during pregnancy, time, blood glucose 3.3-5.6 mmol/l fasting 2 hours after meal 4.4-6.7 night 4.4-6.7

Conclusion

Age is a high risk factor for gestational diabetes mellitus. Pregnant women older than 30 years old, the incidence of GDM increased significantly. Therefore, for the elderly women, pregnancy, pregnancy should be positive detection of blood sugar, clear whether suffering from diabetes.

If diagnosed as diabetes, blood sugar should be actively controlled, and diabetic vascular complications of the examination.
